Jim Surace – One thing I believe is very attractive to people today in a career is something that obviously permeates the American Income Life culture – a sense of youthful chemistry.  Now, when I say that, I’m not talking about chronological age.  What I’m talking about is youthful thinking.

I say a sign of getting old is talking about what you have done, rather than what you’re going to do.  We have a culture and a group of people at American Income Life and in our Agencies in Ohio that love the challenge of what lies ahead.  We don’t dwell on yesterday, although we have a lot of accolades and a lot of growth as a result of what we accomplished yesterday.  At a corporate analytical level, we look at yesterday, but we’re all about today and what we’re going to do tomorrow.

Another thing I think is evident is our team culture. By that, I mean we have a team that really wants to do well, that really wants to do things that are not only good, but amazing.  The team wants to absolutely exceed expectations. We have such a wonderful ‘youthful-thinking’ attitude, talking about what we’re going to do tomorrow and what challenges we’re going to take on.  And although we’re already breaking records as a Company internationally, as well as in our agencies in Ohio, it seems almost every week we’re breaking a new record.

This is what we live for.  We live for that challenge.  Our people are very passionate, very teachable, very enthusiastic, and just love what we’re able to do together.  We like individual accomplishment, but it’s individual as well as collective.  I feel we have that sense of ‘team’ that knows if the team wins, we win individually.

We’re constantly going after new records and new challenges.  And you’ll see that not only in our Agencies in Ohio but in almost every American Income Life Agency throughout the world.  I think those dynamics are really what people are looking for.  I don’t think people today are looking to just have a job (money is good and all that) but to have that sense of something inside that everybody wants to accomplish – that everyone wants to do great and amazing things.  I think it is a wonderful environment to have that dynamic in a company, where you can be part of something greater than yourself and win championships while making a lot of money.  I have not seen that in too many places in America, but I have seen it in abundance with American Income Life.
